"Say something nice about women!" was the cardinal rule of the Nashville song market when I worked there. How much female-interest treacle can you swallow before impulsively spitting out a bilious broadside like the one before us this month? Writing "Hating Women (Song)" was partly purgative; partly, with its chauvinist-intro-Hemingway-verse-porno-verse-chauvinist-summa structure, formal japery; and all great fun. Steve Albini recorded the song (in a session with "We’ll Burn Together" and "She Took a Lot of Pills") in 1994. Darren Wilcox plays upright bass, insanely practical Dan Massey is the drummer, and I, sorry to report, am the guitarist.
