Hey, Badger State hillbillies! I have a great show coming your way. In support of the recent release of "50-Vc. Doberman," I'll be playing at Shank Hall in Milwaukee this Thursday (April 30, 8PM) and High Noon in Madison on Friday (May 1, 9PM). With me -- for this occasion only -- will be a group of players so good that I nearly melt just typing the names: John Abbey, Gerald Dowd, Danny Barnes, Jenny Scheinman, Robbie Gjersoe, Joe Terry, and Nora O'Connor. Though more than half these people live in and around Chicago, a few are from points quite distant. Given that and the size of the group I don't expect this lineup will be repeated. We'll be playing all new songs, meaning all from the new record, mostly those on the acoustic-country side of the fence. Don't miss these shows! I am guaranteeing magic. Different magic, each night; money back if not stunned! We're also playing at Space in Evanston and Old Town School in Chicago, as the tour page states, but I'm not talking up those shows as much because the Old Town is sold out and the other is getting there. So this post is marked, Wisconsinites Only. Thanks for reading, and I'll be back with some funny stories about Sweden soon.

Kathy D from the High Noon confirmed that this is a "seated" show - odd for them. Also odd for fans normally enjoying the experience of getting right up front and in Robbie's face and fingers.

Show @ 9:30 per everybody but Robbie.

I was at the show at High Noon last night night. All I can say about the experience is: wow!

All Star cast .. amazing tuneage .. Robbie's stage presence is large and in charge .. I really enjoyed the tunes with Danny Barnes and Jennie Scheinman. There were some tunes in the 2nd set that were very jazzy, many-layered but with lost of space between notes ... electric just fabulous! I wish this site had a set-list, so that I could know for sure which tracks I want to buy.

And now for that whole buying thing: I totally get you not wanting to work through record companies, and I get wanting to avoid the expense of pressing vinyl. But ....

256kbps is not lossless quality. I want the same quality as on a CD -- whether I get a phyiscal CD from you does not matter, but I avoid buying music that I can ONLY get a lossy copy of. When 256 is played on an ipod it is fine -- but on a home stereo it is not the same -- flat, a bit lifeless. Please either press a cd or give us the option of downloading .wav or other (non-patent-encumbered would be best) lossless formats!

    :-)

Was lucky to be at the High Noon show and it was indeed magic. Stunning. Moving. Thanks Robbies and the whole amazing band. See you, Robbie, at Orton Park, or maybe back at High Noon. And hope you can put that big band back together some day. Really something to see and hear! Hope you had half as much fun playing together as we had watching.

I was at Shank Hall on Thursday. I agree that the show was also excellent. I enjoyed both sets, and thought the band he had behind him was excellent, I really enjoyed the bluegrass stuff he did. Keep up the great job Robbie!!

    Dear Robbie,

Last night's show at OTSFM was wonderful, a bonanza of fun and a well-nigh illegal display of talent. Listening to your 50vc-Doberman is like suddenly having access to Radio Caroline/pirate radio. The songs are remarkable, and we're delighted to have them. Here's to your terrific artistry. Onward!

The SPACE show was great - every musician really sparkled. It was great to hear the the 50Vc stuff but when you came out solo for an encore and invited suggestions, I shouted out the clever/catchy song that's been running through my head the last few weeks, "I Push Right Over." So thanks for making that the first one you played. 'Never Could' and 'I Push Right Over' both strike me as sweet little musical numbers that simultaneously showcase your writing and playing abilities - I never get tired of either of them.

Robbie, your show last night at the Old Town was mind blowing. The new music sampling surprised me an amazing journey from song to song (including a Beyonce cover... Who saw that coming?) and definitely not your typical concert.

I count myself privileged indeed to have been in the audience listening to, and watching such an amazing group of talented artists. Even though you billed this as country fare, there was so much diversity and some pretty cool, eclectic offerings. (I say buy the 50, you just can't go wrong)

    Way to go my man!

P.S. my only complaint... When asked at the end if we had any questions, I asked "can you do that again?" Other than the comparison to requests your wife makes from time to time... Only one encore. So good but never enough.

See you on your next performance at Martyrs.

Was at OTSFM last night (5/3). I came away speechless, and just shaking my head.
Plans changed and I ended up with no concert buddy... good thing...you tend to not be a good conversationalist when a solar wind scorches out and flattens you.

Listened to your mp3's...hmm. Want you to make $$$, but they nowhere near capture the lushness and rockin' jams of you and that band last night. Perhaps you could do Austin City Limits, so more people could see you live. (Where's your pr person?!?)
PS. The Sun of Your Soul...mesmerizing.
