this monday at the hideout

By Robbie on August 2, 2012

Punk rock was not long out of the cradle before it started to feel the magnetic pull of country music, and in the pre-Yoakam, pre-Randy Travis, pre-"integrity-scare" 1980s, country was in a pretty torpid place and needed the jolt. A bunch of bands like the Mekons, Rank and File, Lone Justice, and Violent Femmes showed young people with no particular sympathy to southern folkways that country was a form of hardcore passion and artful truth-telling, whose spirit shone through all kinds of interpretive transmutations. At the top of this class of musical welders loomed Mr. Jason Ringenberg, with his slashing band, the Scorchers. Jason's my guest this Monday!

Will you be recording this performance? This is a duo that I would love to hear.

I haven't thought about Jason and the Scorchers in a long time. I'm sorry to say I never listened to them back when they were around, but it seems to me he will be an incredible guest.

Aadam - I once asked you for a recording of the show at the Abbey Pub back in..I think 2004? Robbie was supporting Evan Dando of the Lemonheads and had a sore throat. I heckled. I would love a copy of that show....

Jason & the Scorchers - played the same festival (Kilkenny) as them, last year. They still rock.

Just read your guitar buying tips blog, Robbie....I like the idea of coming back 3 or 4 times and an intonation check. Great show last night with Jason, and it looks like you chose a D2H....I have one built in 2000 and it just gets better and better, especially with the Thomastik-Infeld strings that Tim Schroeder turned me on to...great to hear what you were getting out of yours!
