Back In White

By Robbie on February 22, 2009

Well, here it is, the new look and the newly designed and formatted site.  As I write this I am watching the Oscars, and I must say, and hope it doesn't sound too cruel, that no matter what you may think of the retooled robbiefulks.com, it sure looks a lot better than Goldie Hawn.

John Gibbons, the shadowy Moriarty-like mastermind who built and oversees this site, has made the administrative functions on the new version more accessible and transparent to someone like myself, who was into adulthood by the time Pacman appeared. Because I am able to post to the homepage myself now, without imposing on John and his wife Martha, I fully expect that I will be posting much more regularly.  I know I've said that kind of thing before, but as Evelyn Keyes said to Artie Shaw, this time it's fo' treal!

There are some new tour dates posted, and I want to especially point out a series of pulse-quickening shows I am performing in late April and early May with a one-time-only group, in support of my "50-vc. Doberman" release.  The octet comprises Robbie Gjersoe and me on guitar, Danny Barnes on banjo, John Abbey on bass, Gerald Dowd on drums, Jenny Scheinman on violin, Nora O'Connor singing, and Scott Ligon on keyboard.  We'll be playing a show of all new songs (so no requests please), and will be drawing from the acoustic, quieter end of the 50-song package.  I look at that list of players and have to pinch myself.  Or maybe it's Goldie Hawn's fresh-from-the-fire visage that's making me do that.  Anyway, you get the idea: these are four shows that, when they're over, will really be over; so if you're in the area do stop by.  (May 3 at Old Town School in Chicago is sold out, but there's a Saturday show just added at the totally spectacular new room in nearby Evanston called Space.)

Oh yeah, and speaking of the Doberman -- sound the tocsin, here it is!  It's my first release in almost two years, and my first release of studio-recorded originals (mostly) since "Georgia Hard" in 2005.  Since it's fifty songs thick, I guess I can go for another year before the cries of "lazy bastard" recommence.  Some of these new tunes are the best I've written, and the playing and recording aren't too wretched either.  What are you waiting for?  Hit the link at the right and buy it.

I'll update you on goings-on here in NYC later.  For now I'll mention that I'm going to be at a local joint in Park Slope called Barbes on Tuesdays, glomming onto Jenny Scheinman's residency there and upsetting the French jazzbos with my untutored flailing!

peace out, rf

    Hey Robbie!

Nice new web site look. Just wanted to shout out a hello from your old 'hood. We miss you and Donna round here. If you hurry up, you might be able to get back here before the DQ closes for the summer.

Rob and I will be at your Evanston show in May and look forward to seeing you and hearing some New Yahk stories. That's my hometown by the way!

    Cheers,
    Lisa

Is this being released on CD, Robbie?

I'm a troglodyte and thus do not generally download music.

PS please come back east - forgive Saint John for what the promoter did...
